WHAT IS THERAPEUTIC CARE?

Therapeutic care provides a higher level of structure, support, and individualized attention for youth who may have experienced trauma, abuse, neglect, instability, or other significant life challenges.

Many young people entering therapeutic residential care may also have emotional, behavioral, mental health, developmental, or physical needs that require additional support.

At Sheltering Arms, we believe that meaningful progress begins with understanding each young man's individual needs. Through consistent guidance, positive relationships, and a structured daily environment, we strive the help residents feel secure, develop trust, and build the skills necessary for personal growth.  Our approach emphasizes patience, accountability encouragement, and respect.

We recognize that every young man progresses at his own pace. By providing consistent encouragement, clear expectations, and individualized guidance, we work to create an environment where residents can build confidence, develop responsibility, and feel supported as they work toward their personal goals.

At Sheltering Arms, we look beyond the behavior to better understand what a young man may be experiencing, what needs may be unmet, and what support can help him develop healthier ways to cope, communicate, and make positive choices.

How We Support Our Young Men

Therapeutic & Emotional Support

Emotional & Behavioral Support

We provide individualized support that helps young men understand their emotions, build healthy coping skills, strengthen communication, and develop positive ways to manage challenges. Through consistent guidance and supportive relationships, residents are encouraged to express themselves appropriately, build self-awareness, strengthen emotional regulation, and develop greater confidence in handling everyday situations.

Structure, Routine & Daily Living

We provide consistent routines and clear expectations that help young men develop responsibility, healthy habits, organization, and greater confidence in managing everyday life. Through daily guidance and age-appropriate responsibilities, residents are encouraged to build independence, practice accountability, and develop skills they can carry into adulthood.

Life Skills & Independence

Through everyday routines and hands-on guidance, young men build practical life skills, personal responsibility, decision-making abilities, and greater confidence as they prepare for increased independence. Residents are encouraged to develop healthy habits, practice problem-solving, strengthen self-care skills, and take greater responsibility for their daily choices and responsibilities.

Education & Academic Support

We support each young man’s educational progress by encouraging school participation, positive study habits, academic responsibility, and collaboration with school and educational teams. We help residents stay focused on their individual goals while providing encouragement, structure, and support to strengthen confidence and promote continued academic growth.
